#documance

#documance is a hashtag and a practice

#documance mobilizes dance and performance to document visual arts through embodiment

#documance plays with the lively tension between materiality and abstraction, ephemerality and permanence

#documance resists any definitive notions of archive and moves in partnership with the relations interwoven in the art work

" I was especially intrigued by how you moved through the space. One of my biggest concerns in my work is how I maneuver through the space of the painting. Moving through the plane. You are moving through actual space and it was interesting to see how this affected the energy and movement of the body. I could see the different responses according to which specific artwork you were focused on. There was a captivating relation to movement that I saw being more internalized and movement that was externalized and surging out. There were times when you were traversing the floor flat on it or leaping through it, even in an upside-down position. This relation of the body in space to the artwork is fascinating as your point of view is constantly shifting. I constantly vary my viewpoints when I work; moving up close and then further away, sometimes even turning the work upside down. Space is affected by so many things; gravity, mass, obstacles- to name a few. As a person, it is also affected by psychological responses to color, gesture, weather, other beings, etc. I could feel your performance addressed many of these issues in a dynamic way. This resulted in an experience that was visually arresting and uncannily emotional."
